Welcome to the first phase of orthodontic treatment for children! Phase 1, otherwise referred to as interceptive orthodontic treatment, is the first step of comprehensive orthodontic treatment.
In this phase, we will prepare your child’s mouth for a straight, healthy set of permanent teeth. Phase 1 usually lasts from 6-18 months, depending on the case. When Phase 1 is complete, your child’s permanent teeth will have the space needed and a healthy environment to grow into. This is the beginning of a great smile!
During the first visit, our orthodontists will assess your child’s teeth development and their jaw growth to get a clear idea of what needs to be done next. At this time, we can determine if there are any habits such as thumb sucking that are causing development problems.
While we monitor your child’s development throughout treatments, we will give you a step-by-step guide to assist your child in the process. Parents are key players in the success of children’s orthodontic treatment, and with our preparation you will be an ortho-expert in no time.
