Tips to Make Dental Care Fun for your Child

Brushing and flossing your teeth can often feel like a chore. However, if you want to have healthy teeth, we all know that we’ve got to do it. That being said, we can’t pass good habits along to our children. We need to make it fun so that they want to brush their teeth every day.

Here are some tips to help.

Let your children pick their own toothbrush and toothpaste. Many children love to be able to pick out the toothbrush that they want to use. They may decide to pick their favourite princess or superhero. Some pick their favourite colour.

They should also get to pick their own toothpaste. They may come to like a certain flavour, which makes it more enjoyable. Others choose it based on their favourite character.

Brush and floss together. Since it is equally important for you to brush and floss your teeth, you may want to make it a routine to do it together. This allows you to show your child the importance, while also spending some time together.

Play a special song during this time. Since you want your child to brush for at least two minutes, a song can be a great way to help pass the time. Your child will learn that once the song is over, he or she can stop brushing.

Reward your children after a trip to the dentist. You don’t want your fear of the dentist to rub off on your children so you need to make it a good event. Do something special with your child after his or her visit so it becomes a positive time.

Many children love to pick their own toothbrush and toothpaste. This can get them interested in brushing their own teeth. You may also want to play a song to make it fun, or even brush your teeth at the same time!
