Healthy Tips for Back to School

Healthy Tips for Back to School

We know that things are operating a little bit differently this back-to-school season. Whether your child is going back to school in-person or online, there’s a few things you can do to make sure their smile stays happy and healthy.

School Lunches

Even though kid’s are covering their smiles with face masks this school year, their oral health remains a priority! There are certain foods that you can pack your child for lunch that can help optimize their oral health. According to our friends at Colgate, some of the healthiest foods for teeth include: cheese, yogurt, leafy greens, apples, carrots, celery and almonds. Try to include one of these snacks in your child’s lunch to help maintain good oral health!

Face Masks

Wearing a face mask to school everyday is one of the biggest adjustments your child will have to make this school year. There’s a few things parents can do to help ease their child into the idea of wearing a face covering:

  • Put a face mask on your child’s favourite stuffed animal.
  • Buy colourful and kid-friendly face masks (like the ones here from Old Navy).
  • Explain to them how face masks can help those at risk.
  • Be sure to be a good role model and wear a mask yourself!

Oral Health This Back-To-School Season

The Canadian Dental Association recommends that children see their pediatric dentist every six months. The goal is to prevent oral health problems, not wait until one occurs. By bringing your child in for a biannual check-up, our team can let you know if at-home cleaning is effective and if there are any underlying problems. Regular dental visits can also help your child feel comfortable with their dentist and let them know we’re here to help.

We want to help keep your child smiling this school year! If it’s been over 6 months since the last time your child visited one of our children’s dentists in Richmond Hill, Markham or Stouffville, please send an email info@kidsdentalgroup.ca. We can’t wait to see you soon!
