How Often Should I Brush My Toddler’s Teeth

It is never too early to start caring for your child’s teeth and dental hygiene. Basic hygiene will help ensure your child’s dental development stays on track and help to avoid tooth decay. At Kids Dental Group, we help monitor this development and ensure your child’s teeth remain healthy.

How Often Should You Brush Your Toddler’s Teeth?

We recommend brushing twice a day and flossing once a day to remove all food particles and debris from their mouth. You should brush their teeth at least once before bedtime if brushing twice is difficult to manage. We recommend cleaning once after breakfast and once before bed.

When Should You Start Cleaning?

It is important to start cleaning immediately after their teeth emerge. Even a small single primary tooth can develop problems if you don’t follow good dental hygiene practices. Clean all surfaces gently with a specially designed toothbrush for kids and use a low-fluoride toothpaste. Your child will need your help until they are around 7 to 8 years old, after this age they should be capable to brush without supervision.
