Does it matter where I get my Invisalign?

Invisalign is a great advancement that offers patients an alternative to the old-fashioned braces.

Since it does not require learning how to use brackets and wires, it has become an attractive device to many general dentists in addition to orthodontists. The biggest question many ask is, is it important to pay attention to who is providing you with your Invisalign?

Align Technology is the company that makes Invisalign. It is a manufacturing company headed by computer whizzes, not dental professionals. They do not provide diagnosis or treatment plans, but the final product. It is up to your dentist or orthodontist to find all the problems that exist with your teeth, and decide on a proper treatment plan to address these problems.

While general dentists can learn how to move teeth, orthodontists specialize in this area and understand the biology and physic behind creating the perfect end result. Although regular braces aren’t the same as Invisalign, the education and experience from treating those with braces carries over into this type of therapy.

The most important thing to remember is this treatment is not for everyone, and won’t always be the best option for every different orthodontic case. Although general dentists can learn how to use Invisalign technology, having an orthodontist that specializes in exactly what you are trying to accomplish with your orthodontic treatment is probably going to benefit you in the long run.

So yes it does matter where you get your Invisalign treatment!
